SIGNIFICANCE: Santa’s reindeer are warming-up to pull his sleigh!  Last year, 325 racers joined Dasher, Dancer, and the gang for the annual Katherine A. Ragsdale Reindeer Romp.  This year, over 400 racers are expected to join in on the fun.  Participants are encouraged to come dressed in their favorite holiday costumes to be eligible for special prizes!

The 2016 Reindeer Romp marks the 13th Annual 5k Run/Walk and 1 mile Fun Run/Walk event hosted by the Mary Perry Ragsdale YMCA of Jamestown.  The purpose behind the event is to raise funds for the Annual Giving Campaign, which is the YMCA’s annual scholarship program that provides assistance for families who may otherwise be unable to participate in Y programs.  Supporters of the Reindeer Romp are helping their neighbors and community.

Race participants will range from 4 to 90 years old and will include several area GoFAR racers.  GoFAR is a national program designed to help combat childhood obesity, along with teaching children responsibility and goal setting by training for and completing a 5k event.  The YMCA encourages every member of the family to run this race and be active at the holidays. Create positive healthy habits & live life to the fullest!

Registrations can be made online at https://runsignup.com/Race/NC/Jamestown/RagsdaleYMCAReindeerRomp or in person at the Ragsdale Family YMCA.  Entry fees are: $20 for the 1 mile Fun Run/Walk, $30 today or $35 for the 5K tomorrow. Registration closes at 8:15am tomorrow.
