Two New YMCA Locations to Join the YMCA of Greensboro Family

Locations will officially join the YMCA of Greensboro, effective January 1, 2017

Eden, NC – After nearly two years of analysis and planning, the Eden Family YMCA and Western Rockingham County YMCA will officially become part of the YMCA of Greensboro Association on January 1, 2017.  With the addition of these two locations, the YMCA of Greensboro will have eight facilities serving the communities of Greensboro, Jamestown, Whitsett, and all of Rockingham County, including Eden, Reidsville, Madison and Mayodan, NC. The YMCA of Greensboro also operates YMCA Camp Weaver located in Southeast Greensboro.

Eden & Western Rockingham Family Y members have already begun seeing some of the positive results of this relationship, as both locations have been in a management agreement with the YMCA of Greensboro since 2015.  Updated equipment and expanded amenities are already in place, with additional plans for program growth down the road.  Members can also take advantage of the new My Y is Every Y benefit, which gives members full access to most North Carolina & Virginia YMCAs including those in the YMCA of Greensboro association, plus member rates on all YMCA of Greensboro programs (including Camp Weaver). This is especially beneficial for Eden Family YMCA members, due to the community’s proximity to Virginia.

“We are thrilled to welcome the Eden and Western Rockingham County Express YMCA locations into the YMCA of Greensboro family,” stated James “Smitty” Smith, Board Chair of the YMCA of Greensboro. “We entered into this process with the goal of determining how the YMCA could best serve Eden, Madison and Mayodan and the surrounding community. Having the Eden and Western Rockingham YMCAs as part of YMCA of Greensboro will elevate our impact in all of the communities we serve, especially those in Rockingham County.”

Peter Baker, who has served as the Executive Director for both locations since January 2015 as part of the management agreement, will continue in his role providing leadership and oversight to the two facilities that currently make up the Eden Y. “This is an incredible opportunity to strengthen our impact in Eden, as well as in all of Western Rockingham County, and advance our cause of strengthening the community,” said Thomas “Tommy” Davis, Chair of the Board of Directors for the Eden Family YMCA. “By combining our resources and traditions, we will be able to more effectively address critical community needs in our focus areas of youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. We will also be able to offer an enhanced membership experience to our current and future members.”
