Eden, N.C., February 26, 2024 – The Eden Family YMCA is excited to announce its partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC to bring the Cooking Matters® program to the Eden community. This free nutrition series aims to teach participants how to cook healthy meals on a budget, empowering families to stretch their food budgets and provide their children with nutritious meals at home.

Cooking Matters® is a hands-on, six-week cooking course that will be held at the Eden Family YMCA every Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. The series will kick off on March 4 with the first class titled "Let's Get Cooking." Each subsequent class will cover various topics such as choosing fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, healthy starts at home, the power of planning, shopping smart, and a recipe for success. Participants are required to attend at least five out of the six classes, and registration is limited.

The associated lessons of Cooking Matters® will be 60-90 minutes per session, providing participants with valuable knowledge and skills to make healthier choices and cook delicious, affordable meals. By learning to shop smarter and use nutrition information, families will be able to make the most of their food budgets while ensuring their loved ones receive the nutrition they need.

"We are thrilled to partner with Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC to bring Cooking Matters® to the Eden community," said Jeremy Tesh, Executive Director of the Eden Family YMCA. "This program aligns perfectly with our mission to promote healthy living and provide resources that benefit our community. We believe that by equipping families with the skills to cook nutritious meals on a budget, we can make a positive impact on their overall well-being."

Cooking Matters® has been successfully serving families across the country, and now the Eden community will have the opportunity to benefit from this valuable program.
