Greensboro, North Carolina, September 9, 2024 – The YMCA of Greensboro is thrilled to announce that we have been named a Family Forward NC Certified Employer by the North Carolina Early Childhood Foundation's Family Forward NC initiative.
The Family Forward NC certification aligns perfectly with our mission to support families and communities through programs and practices that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. With this certification, the Y aims to emphasize our commitment to fostering a family-friendly work environment and reinforce our ability to attract and retain dedicated team members who are passionate about our values. Embracing this certification empowers us to lead by example, showcasing the YMCA of Greensboro as a champion for families in every community.
"The Family Forward NC certification reflects our belief that when we prioritize the well-being of our team members and their families, we strengthen our organization and empower our community to thrive," said Rhonda Anderson, CEO and President of the YMCA of Greensboro. "This certification is a true reflection of the YMCA's core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. By fostering a family-friendly workplace, we embody these principles and ensure that our impact extends beyond our organization into the lives of those we serve."
Launched in 2018, Family Forward NC is an innovative initiative to improve children's health and well-being and keep North Carolina's businesses competitive. It is an employer-led change to increase access to research-based, family-friendly practices to enhance workplace productivity, recruitment, and retention, grow a strong economy, and support healthy child development. Family Forward NC has engaged with more than 6,900 employers across the state.
"Employers want to attract and retain the best employees, and they want those employees to be happy and healthy," said Muffy Grant, executive director of the North Carolina Early Childhood Foundation.
A Family Forward NC Employer Certification designates employers that offer policies and practices that support the health and well-being of working families and children. To achieve certification, NCECF looks at employer benefits in the following policy and practice categories: paid leave and wages, accommodations for pregnant and breastfeeding workers, childcare support, health and wellness benefits, and scheduling practices.
