"I will never forget how they were there for us when we needed them the most."
Below is one YMCA mom's story about her experience at the Y, made possible because of our financial assistance program. Her son has been in childcare and sports at the Y for over 6 years, and we're happy to be a support system for them. This is made possible thanks to our generous donors who support our YMCA Annual Campaign - helping us provide more families with the opportunities they need to learn, grow and thrive.
For years, I have been impressed with after-school care and summer camps my son attended through Reidsville YMCA. Since school closures in March, he has attended the Reidsville YMCA daily, and now he is enrolled in their Back to School programming.
I feel at ease when I drop off my son in the morning because I know there are so many precautionary measures taken to ensure his and all the kids' safety during these uncertain times. Temperature checks, health screening, drive-thru drop off and pick up, social distancing, mask rules, sanitizing and more sanitizing are all part of a new routine that the staff has had to adapt to, and I applaud them for that.
I am thankful for the scheduled learning format they have also incorporated into their routine in order for the kids to adhere to Rockingham County Schools expectations of their students. Each morning, a friendly staff member greets me and my son and asks about his virtual schedule, assists him as needed, then each evening at pick up I receive an update informing me of assignments completed along with a list of any challenges for that day.
Now that is extremely reassuring to a single working mother. I appreciate the amazing staff at Reidsville YMCA, and I will never forget how they were there for us when we needed them the most.
