Get Fit at Any Age at the Y!
Staying active is even more important as we age. Enjoy getting fit and having fun by trying out one of the many offerings from the Y! From community-building activities like luncheons and group outings to fitness activities like chair tap, tai chi and more, YMCA of Greensboro has a variety of offerings specifically created for active older adults. Some of these high-quality programs are free and included with your membership, while others require an additional fee.
SilverSneakers®
SilverSneakers®, Silver&Fit®, Renew Active and OnePass are programs that provide you with free access to all YMCA of Greensboro locations, including those in Rockingham County. The programs also provide member rates on programs within the YMCA of Greensboro. Weights, treadmills, pools and other amenities are included. We also offer group exercise classes for all abilities led by our certified instructors. To see if you qualify for SilverSneakers® or Silver&Fit®, please contact your health insurance company.
SilverSneakers® is more than access to the Y. SilverSneakers® is a type of group exercise class we offer. You do not need to be a certain age or have a SilverSneakers® membership to participate in class, just show up and begin your wellness journey.
Other Branch-Specific Offerings for Active Older Adults
Tai Chi
Tai chi is often described as “meditation in motion,” but it might well be called “medication in motion.” There is growing evidence that this mind-body practice, which originated in China as a martial art, has value in treating or preventing many health problems. You can get started even if you aren’t in top shape or the best of health.
Taught by Eric Reiss. Offered Monday & Wednesday at 10:45 am in Room 1, $35 for Members and $55 for Community Guests per month.
Taylor Gems
This group of seniors, called the “Taylor Gems,” meets every Tuesday at 12:30pm. Enjoy bingo, one-day-trips, fun activities, and so much more!

Anyone is welcome to come! Pre-register with a $1 to $5 donation at the front desk. The deadline is usually the Friday before so we can estimate how many members will participate. Lunch is provided, prepared by one of our staff members. Members can bring their favorite sides or desserts etc.
Some group exercises that are tailored specifically for individuals as they age include:
Active Adult Fitness (AAF)
