Celebrating Juneteenth

Celebrate Juneteenth with events around the Triad! Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Though the Emancipation Proclamation was signed on January 1, 1863, it took two and a half years for enslaved individuals in the state of Texas to be told of their freedom.

Juneteenth is the celebration of the day in the United States when enslaved individuals became aware of their freedom. Below is a list of upcoming events celebrating Juneteenth in the Triad area.

Juneteenth Greensboro

Greensboro, June 17-20

Greensboro arts and community leaders are hosting a Juneteenth Festival from June 17 to 20. A list of events is below!

June 17

5:30pm - 8pm, The Peoples Market Farmer’s Market in the Glenwood neighborhood
8pm - 9:30pm, SiStars of Juneteenth at the Carolina Theatre

June 18

7:30pm - 9pm, Arts Legacy Awards at the Van Dyke Performance Space, Greensboro Cultural Center, 200 N. Davie St.

June 19

9am - 6pm, Family Day at Douglas Park, 701 Douglas Park

6pm - 8pm, Black Food Truck Festival at LeBauer Park, 208 N. Davie St.

8pm - 10pm, The Poetry Café at LeBauer Park

June 20

7pm - 10:30pm, Drive-In Movie: “Don’t Shoot the Messenger” at Khalif Event Center, 2000 E. Wendover Ave.

Triad Cultural Arts Juneteenth Festival Winston-Salem, June 19

The 2021 Triad Cultural Arts Juneteenth Festival will be a hybrid event, held both in-person and online. The in-person event will take place at Innovation Quarter, Biotech Place in Winston-Salem from 12pm to 5pm and Bailey Park from 12pm to 7pm. The event will include guest speakers, music, food trucks, merchandise vendors, COVID-19 vaccines and more!

Parts of the festival will also be available to experience virtually on the Triad Cultural Arts Facebook page and YouTube channel. Visit the Triad Cultural Arts website to learn more!

16th Annual North Carolina Juneteenth Celebration Durham, June 19

Celebrate Juneteenth with live music, food trucks, vendors, a fashion show, activities for kids of all ages and more! The event will be held from 1pm - 10pm on East Main Street.
