The apple picking, bonfires, pumpkin-spiced everything season — it’s finally here! Fall is many people's favorite season and we understand the reason. From its weather to beautiful foliage, fall is the perfect time to exercise and engage in family activities outdoors. Here are some ideas for Fall family activities in Greensboro, NC, and surrounding areas:
1. Visit Your Local Farmers Market
Walk around your local farmers market and find in season fruits and vegetables such as apples, peaches, carrots, pumpkins and more. Make it even more fun and invite your children to cook a delicious and healthy fall recipe with the ingredients you bought! Need some inspiration? Check this Easy Apple Recipes for Young Chefs by the YMCA.
Here are some Farmer’s Market around the area:

- Rockingham County Farmers Market
- Piedmont Triad Farmers Market
- Burlington Farmers Market
2. Go to a Pumpkin Patch
Going to a pumpkin patch is a great activity to move around, enjoy the outdoors, take the cutest family photos and get your hands on pumpkins you can carve (or eat) later – what more can you ask for? Visit Triad Moms on Main blog about Pumpkin Patches, Hayrides & More to find a Pumpkin Patch and more family activities near you.
3. Fall into Fitness
Let you and your family channel their inner yogi with this six week yoga series! We have partnered once again with the Greensboro Parks and Recreation to bring Fall into Fitness. This series features a yoga class every Thursday from 6pm to 7pm around the community. Join us as we take fitness outside and to your neighborhood!
4. Find a Festival to Attend
Want to find lots of fall activities all in one spot? Then a Fall Festival sounds like the activity for you! Our partners at Greensboro Parks and Recreation are always organizing amazing fall events and fall festivals in Downtown Greensboro and surrounding Greensboro areas such as the Fall Festival at Griffin Recreation Center on November 11 that will be offering free food, games and music for the entire family!
5. Try Something New
New season, new experiences! Embrace the fall season by trying some new before the year ends. Trying a new routine or class can help you and your family be more creative and find new interests together. Some things you could try are learning a new sport, visiting a new park or enrolling in a new class. At the Y we offer many different group exercise classes and free community events. There is something for everyone at the Y. Check out this new class at Stoney Creek YMCA – Baby & Me Yoga!
6. Participate in a fun fall-themed road race!
Gather the entire family and join a road race adventure! Participating in a road race can be an active way to have fun with your family and the local community. Join us for the 45th Annual Reidsville YMCA Turkey Trot 5K with a virtual option & 1-Mile Fun Run on November 12! The funds raised by the race support programming and financial assistance through our Annual Campaign. When you support the Turkey Trot, you’re doing your part to build belonging and strengthen our community — and a strong community is good for everyone.
